What’s happening across the Hunter this New Year’s weekend

PARTY TIME: The skies of Newcastle, Port Stephens, Maitland and the Hunter Valley will be bright with fireworks on Saturday night. Displays include train and tram sets, plus a build area for children to let their imaginations run wild. Part of the profits will be donated to Port Stephens Marine Services.

Hunter Valley Gardens New Year’s Eve 6pm to 11.45pm,Hunter Valley Gardens, Pokolbin. One of the best placed to viewfireworks in the Valley.

Maitland New Year’s Eve Celebration 2016 5pm to9pm, Central Maitland Riverfront.There will be family-friendly entertainment including live music and food, followed by the fireworks display at 9pm.

Nelson Bay New Year’s Eve 11am to 9pm,D’Albora Marina. Live music from Ben Travis and The Fruit Trees will keep the holidaymakers entertained by day, before the 9pm fireworks provide the night’smain event.

Newcastle New Year’s Eve 20166pm to 9pm,Honeysuckle precinct from Worth Place Park to Harbour Square. Three stages of family-friendly entertainment and fireworkswill be in full swing to celebrate the end of 2016. Entertainment includes Rosie’s School of Rock battle of the bands, local music acts Phonic TrioandJerome, roving performances from Hunter Drama’s production of Shrek The Musical Jr,Splashdown Water Show, kids play zone, food vans and the 9pm fireworks display over the harbour.

New Year’s Eve Street Party 6pm to 2am, Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle West. It will be the biggest music party in the Hunter this new year’s, headlined by ARIA No.1 artist Illy. The bill also includesSan Cisco, Pnau, The Kite String Tangle, Boo Seeka, Kim Churchill, Jayteehazard, Raave Tapes andLyall Moloney. Tickets are still available for $95.

Paterson New Year’s Eve Festival 4pm to 12am, Tucker Park, Paterson. Celebrate the end of 2016 withlive music from the Outback Hippies, fireworks at 9pm and midnight,jumping castle, clowns, slippery slide, face painting, body tattoos, lucky dipprizes, free balloons and lollies.

Tea GardensNew Year’s Eve Celebrations 2017 5pm to 12.30am,Tea Gardens Country Club. Families will be well catered for with agiantslide, jumping castle and face painting from 5pm, plus a sausage sizzle. Live entertainment for the adults will be provided by bandsThe Urgeand Supergroove until 12:30amand the fireworks will light up the sky at9:30pm.

SUNDAY44thn Taser Championships 2016/2017 Port Stephens Sailing & Aquatic Club,Salamander Bay.The week-long program kicks off on New Year’s Day with the invitation race, before the championships begins on Monday. About 70 boats will race on the beautiful blue waters of Port Stephens.Theevent includesracing on the Karuah River, opening and closing ceremonies, a mid- Regatta function, competitor briefing sessions, social functions and happy hour after each day of racing.
